Chinese Business Networks
Using the prolifersting volume of social science data and concepts on the subject, this book attempts to provide an alternative interpretation of the business conduct of the ethnic chinese of sountheast and eat asia.
The book tries to argue that explanations of chinese business conduct in term of culture are too convenient aand simplistic;that not all chinese everywhere are the same, and do business anly among themseles-ina so-called "Chinese diaspora".a "Greater China"or a "bamboo network ";taht not all Chinese are sucesful in business, anad not all successfull businessmen aare Chinese-especially when the analyses;that guanxi has ists "doawn side ";that many ethnic chiinese of southeast asia may well be"reluctant merchants"as the face many insatitutinal obstryuctions in upward mobility ;that the seeming solidarity among thae ethinnic Chinese perhaps has more to do with social forces impinging on them as members of a"radcial group"than with primordial sentiments internal to the group.
